Committing to the quality and image of the Manchuela Denominación de Origen (Designation of Origin) is a guarantee that is already providing benefits. The strength of its people, the love of their land and a culture committed to wine are powerful reasons for guaranteeing the success of this D.O.

It is worth highlighting the important investment in technology made by all those involved to greatly exceed the levels of quality which are demanded by the current market.

Wines we can consider as singular thanks to their characteristics and the climate in the region.

“This is the moment for wines from the La Manchuela”

The Manchuela DO is a chartered body bringing together associations of wine producers and organisations from the winemaking sector in the Region of the Manchuela.

Basic mission:

  • Raise awareness, transparency in production and the market for the wines bearing this DO.
  • Help to coordinate ways of doing business by means of research and market studies.
  • Draw up standard forms for contracts compatible with EC legislation.
  • Control the quality of wines during production, vinification and marketing stages.
  • Encourage production methods that are environmentally friendly.

Located between the valleys of the rivers Jucar and Cabriel, la Manchuela enjoys very particular weather conditions.

The limestone-based clay soils from the sediments of the two rivers collect and hold the rainwater that falls, even before the grapes have grown.

The scant humidity and almost complete lack of rainfall between the months of May and September, as well as the enormous amount of sunshine received during the ripening process, make the risk of disease negligible and quality is, therefore, not affected by plant protection treatments.

The vineyards are grown over an area of approximately 72,000 hectares located at a height of 600 to 1,100 metres above sea level. They enjoy a continental climate and are influenced by the moist Levant winds. The high temperatures during the day from the Poniente wind and the nocturnal freshness of the Mediterranean breeze favour slow ripening and perfect formation of the polyphenols in the grapes.

All of this, in harmony with Manchuela’s traditional methods of cultivation and a moderate production, makes for an ideal framework for guaranteeing the personality and excellent quality of its wines.
